Is Your Website a Brochure or a Salesperson? 3 Tweaks to Get More Leads

August 24, 2026 | Growth

Imagine paying a sales representative to sit in the corner of your office, look pretty, and completely ignore the phone when it rings. You’d fire them by Friday, right?

Yet, that’s exactly what a lot of small business owners let their websites do every single day.

There is a massive difference between a brochure website and a salesperson website. A brochure website just sits there, listing your services and showing a couple of nice photos. A salesperson website actively engages your visitors, answers their burning questions, and guides them straight to your contact form.

If your website traffic is decent but your inbox is a ghost town, your site is acting like a brochure. Here are three simple, high-impact tweaks to turn your WordPress site into a lead-generating machine.

1. Stop Hiding Your Call to Action (CTA)

If someone lands on your homepage, reads what you do, and decides they want to work with you, what do they have to do next? If they have to scroll all the way back to the top, click a “Contact” menu link, and find a hidden email address, you’ve already lost them.

People on the internet are notoriously impatient. If you make them work to give you their business, they’ll leave.

The Fix: Make your primary action button impossible to miss. Whether it’s “Book a Call,” “Get a Quote,” or “Schedule a Consultation,” that button should be a contrasting color and placed right in your header, in the middle of your intro section, and sprinkled naturally down the page. Don’t make them guess what the next step is. Tell them exactly what to do!

2. Ditch the 20-Field Interrogation Form

We’ve all seen those contact forms that look like an application for a top-secret government clearance. They ask for a first name, last name, phone number, physical address, budget, business history, and a detailed paragraph explaining the project.

Every extra field you add to a form decreases the chances of someone actually finishing it. If your form is annoying, people will just close the tab.

The Fix: Trim the fat. On a standard WordPress or Divi site, you usually only need three basic things to start a conversation: a name, an email address, and a brief message box. You can worry about the fine details once you actually get them on the phone or reply to their email. Keep the initial barrier to entry as low as humanly possible.

3. Talk About Their Problems, Not Your History

A classic brochure website trap is filling the homepage with paragraph after paragraph about when your business was founded, your philosophy, and a list of equipment you use.

Harsh truth incoming: Your clients don’t care about you. They care about what you can do for them.

When a local customer visits your site, they are asking one question: “Can this person fix my specific problem?” If your headline is just “Welcome to Our Company,” you aren’t answering that question.

The Fix: Rewrite your main sections to focus on the customer’s pain points. Instead of “We Offer Expert Plumbing Services,” try something like, “Leaky Pipes Driving You Crazy? We’ll Fix It Fast.” Focus the conversation on the outcome your clients get when they hire you.
