Celebrating 10 Years as a Web Designer and Business Owner

February 17, 2025 | News

This year marks a significant milestone: 10 years in business as a web designer and business owner. Reflecting on the journey, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride for how far I’ve come and deep gratitude for everyone who has supported me along the way.

It’s a time to celebrate achievements, recognize the incredible people who have been part of this journey, and look forward to the future with excitement and determination.

A Journey of Growth and Learning

When I started this business, I had no idea just how much it would evolve over the years. The early days were filled with challenges—learning how to manage projects, finding clients (more like Googling “how to get web design clients”), and juggling the demands of entrepreneurship. But every hurdle taught me invaluable lessons.

Over time, I developed not just my skills in web design but also my confidence as a business owner. Milestones like launching my first big project, receiving positive feedback from clients, and hitting financial goals reinforced my belief in what I was building.

Persistence, adaptability, and a genuine passion for creating websites that help clients succeed have been the driving forces behind my journey.

Gratitude for the Team and Mentors

I’m incredibly fortunate to have had the support of talented and dedicated team members over the years. A special shoutout to DeAnne (Little Town Marketing), our “Website Wizard”, whose contributions have been instrumental to our success. Her expertise and commitment have elevated the service we deliver.

At my very first WordCamp US, I met Heather (Mighty Little Web Shop). I had the privilege of working with her for several years before fully stepping out on my own. She provided guidance, opportunities, and resources that have shaped my approach to both design and business.

Celebrating Industry Friendships

One of the unexpected joys of this journey has been the friendships I’ve formed with others in the industry. These connections have been a source of inspiration, knowledge-sharing, and camaraderie.

Alex (Hildebrand Design Co.) has been a wonderful friend and colleague whose insights and encouragement mean the world to me. And then there’s Jayne (Luna Creative Studio), my work bestie and WordCamp US partner, whose creativity and enthusiasm are infectious. Jayne has been a constant source of support and a reminder of why I love this industry so much. 💖

These friendships have not only enriched my personal life but have also made me a better web designer. I’m grateful for the commiseration and support they provide on Slack every day! #innercircle

A Tribute to Clients

Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible variety of clients. From dog treat brands and independent living services to yoga studios, gyms, and travel agencies. If it’s a business with a heartbeat, I’ve probably built their website.

These experiences have shaped my approach to web design, teaching me the importance of understanding each client’s unique needs and goals. I’ve learned how to craft websites that not only look great but also drive results for their businesses.

Each client has been a lesson in creativity, communication, and sometimes patience! They’ve pushed me to be better and trusted me to bring their visions to life. For that, I’ll always be grateful.

Looking Ahead

As I celebrate this 10-year milestone, I’m filled with excitement about what the future holds. New projects, new challenges, and maybe even some new tools that make web design feel less like coding and more like magic.

My focus remains on growth—both personal and professional. I want to continue learning, pushing boundaries, and delivering exceptional work that makes a difference for my clients.

To everyone who has been part of this journey—team members, mentors, friends, and clients—thanks for sticking with me through it all.
